Frequently asked questions
Headway's mission is to make mental healthcare affordable and accessible. To do this, Headway is working with Anthem to simplify the process of finding and booking an in-network mental health clinician who is a great fit through technology, which allows clinicians to easily run their practice and have more time for their clients.
An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a confidential workplace benefit that provides short-term mental health support to employees and their families at no cost. EAPs typically offer 4 free sessions per issue per year and are designed for brief, solution-focused therapy.
After entering your employer's name on the Anthem EAP website, you can request your MRN number in one of two ways:
Call your employer's Anthem's EAP support line (found at the top of the page in the blue banner)
Create an online account to obtain your MRN online
For Anthem EAP, clients can only see clinical psychologists & master level therapists.
Household members follow the same process as primary beneficiaries - you will need to request an authorization number (MRN) by either requesting one on Anthem EAP website or by calling the employer's Anthem EAP support line (found at the top of the page in the blue banner).
After obtaining the MRN, you will need to create a separate Headway profile for your household member since multiple individuals cannot share the same account (i.e., minors must have separate Headway profiles than their parents).
Cost: EAP sessions are completely free (no copays, deductibles, or out-of-pocket costs)
Session limits: EAPs have a set number of sessions per issue (4 sessions)
Purpose: Designed for short-term, focused treatment of specific problems
Transition: After EAP sessions end, you can continue with regular insurance if needed
You can message your therapist directly through the Messages page in your Headway account once you've created your account.
While we do our best to match you with a provider who aligns with your needs and preferences from the start, we understand that finding the right fit is sometimes an iterative process. If your initial match isn't the right one, you can easily switch to another provider within the Anthem EAP network and continue utilizing your remaining sessions.
Yes - you can either (1) transition to your insurance benefits, if your provider accepts your primary insurance, or (2) discuss with your EAP carrier or employer for information on requesting additional EAP sessions.
No - EAP services are completely confidential. Your employer only receives aggregate data (like "X% of employees used EAP") with no individual identifying information.
