Great to meet you!

Life has a way of throwing a lot at us, and sometimes the coping mechanisms we pick up along the way—whether it's that extra glass of wine, a prescription that took the wheel, or a nightly routine that spiraled—end up running the show. I’m Dr. Hallstrom, and my work centers on helping people untangle that knot with genuine warmth, practical science, and zero judgment.

I hold a Master’s in Addiction Counseling, a PhD in General Psychology with an emphasis on integrated behavioral health (the crucial intersection where mind and body meet), and specialized training in trauma-informed therapy. Because addiction rarely travels alone, I focus heavily on the underlying baggage that fuels it—whether that's past trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, or simply trying to survive a stressful world.

Here is how we can work together based on where you are:

  • Arizona Clients: As a Licensed Independent Addiction Counselor (LIAC), my scope covers the full spectrum. That includes chemical dependencies (alcohol, nicotine, prescription medications, street drugs, or even caffeine habits that have gone off the rails) as well as the modern behavioral hooks that drain our energy—think endless doom-scrolling, video game marathons, gambling, screens, and pornography.
  • Texas Clients: Under my LCDC credential, my practice is specifically focused on chemical dependency and substance abuse challenges.
  • Who I See: Individuals (ages 12 and up) and couples working to rebuild communication, stability, and trust.

Therapy doesn't have to feel clinical, cold, or intimidating. If you or someone you care about is ready to trade white-knuckling for real traction, reach out for a brief consultation. We’ll talk through where things stand and figure out the best way forward together.

My approach to therapy

Whether life feels derailed by chemical habits, modern traps like screen loops and gambling, or the heavy undertow of trauma and complex personality dynamics, you don’t have to untangle the mess alone. My approach blends rigorous, evidence-based strategy with genuine warmth—and enough humor to remind us that being human is messy work. Together, we’ll ditch the generic advice, get to the root of what’s driving the chaos, and build a recovery plan that actually fits your real life.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is entirely about getting our bearings—no pop quizzes, no lie detector tests, and definitely no expectation that you have everything figured out before you sit down.

Think of it as a low-pressure conversation to see how the puzzle pieces fit. We’ll look at what’s bringing you in, explore what’s working (and what’s decidedly not), and start mapping out a realistic plan tailored to your actual life—not some generic textbook script. You set the pace, you hold the remote, and we leave the guilt at the door.

Our main goal for day one? Making sure you walk out feeling heard, understood, and confident that you don’t have to carry the heavy stuff entirely on your own anymore.
