Great to meet you!

I have been a counselor for more than 20 years and hold a master’s degree in counseling, with licenses to practice in multiple states. I work with adults and adolescents, with a particular passion for helping men and those who spend much of their lives caring for, teaching, leading or helping others. I believe our stories matter, and much of my work involves understanding how the experiences and relationships that have shaped us continue to affect who we are today. My approach is warm and relational, helping people face difficult parts of their story and discover how even seasons of hardship can become places of meaningful growth.

My approach to therapy

I believe good therapy begins with relationship. I want to understand your story, not simply identify a problem and give you techniques to manage it. Together, we will pay attention to the emotions, relationships, patterns and experiences that have shaped you, including the ways you may have learned to protect yourself along the way. My approach draws from attachment-based and emotionally focused therapy, while also incorporating elements of person-centered, psychodynamic and parts work, along with practical CBT strategies when they can help you challenge unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior. I will meet you with warmth, curiosity and humor, but I will also challenge you when I believe there is something important we need to look at together.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is really about getting to know one another and beginning to understand what brings you to counseling. I will ask questions about what is happening in your life, some of the story that brought you here, and what you hope might be different as a result of our work together. You do not have to tell me everything in the first hour, and there is no pressure to go somewhere you are not ready to go. My goal is for you to leave that first session feeling heard, understood, and hopeful that we have a direction we can begin walking together.
