Great to meet you!

Great to meet you! I'm Dr. Abbigael Simpson, a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with experience in mental health care since 2022, following nearly 15 years as a Registered Nurse in a high-acuity Medical Intensive Care Unit. I work with individuals across the lifespan navigating depression, stress management, maternal mental health, relationship issues, women's issues, substance use and addiction, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, OCD, sleep disorders, family issues, anger management, panic disorders, identity issues, trauma, PTSD, and chronic conditions.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Arizona. My clinical interests include the treatment of mood disorders, psychotic disorders, and women's mental health. My nearly 15 years in the ICU taught me how to stay calm under pressure, think critically, and advocate fiercely for my patients. I bring that same commitment to mental health care, where I'm dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based treatment to help you feel better and live more fully.

My approach to therapy

My style is warm, challenging, and holistic. I believe in treating the whole person, not just symptoms, and I'm not afraid to gently challenge you when it will help you grow. The first session is always the scariest because you don't know what to expect. To start with, I promise I don't bite! But the most important thing to know is that my first priority is getting you taken care of.

Medication management is my primary service, and I pair it with therapeutic support during your visits, drawing on Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) alongside your medication care. I do not offer therapy as a stand-alone service, but if dedicated therapy would help, I'm glad to refer you to a trusted therapist in the area.

I believe it is essential for providers to truly listen to their patients and foster clear, open communication. Creating a space for honest dialogue helps support patient-centered care, encourages engagement, and promotes lasting progress toward each individual's mental health goals. I value compassionate, direct conversations that empower patients to feel informed and confident in their care. My goal is for every patient to have a clear understanding of their treatment options, expected outcomes, and to feel supported in making decisions about their own care.

What you can expect from me

The goal of the time we spend together is to work collaboratively to develop a care plan that blends my knowledge with your values to get you supported in the areas where you find yourself stuck and struggling. You should expect to be treated with respect and dignity throughout our time together and should leave with a clear understanding of a mutually agreed upon plan of care, expected outcomes, and any new medication or medication changes.

You can expect a warm, honest conversation where you feel truly heard. My goal is for you to leave our first session feeling supported, informed, and hopeful about the path forward.
