Great to meet you!

First, please call me Abby. I’m a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in Georgia and a licensed master social worker (LMSW) in New York, with twenty years of experience supporting adults and couples through complex and sensitive concerns.

I specialize in working with people navigating sexual compulsivity and atypical sexual interests, as well as highly stigmatized concerns and problematic sexual behaviors. My goal is to offer a structured, respectful, and nonjudgmental space where you can talk openly about difficult topics and begin moving toward meaningful, responsible change.

My background includes extensive work with individuals involved in the criminal justice system. I hold a Ph.D. in criminology from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia, a Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University in New York, and a bachelor’s degree in social work with a certificate in criminal justice from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

My approach to therapy

With twenty years of experience, I work with adults and couples navigating a wide range of mental health and relationship concerns. I believe therapy should feel safe, supportive, and focused on meaningful change—not judgment.

I tailor our work to you, recognizing that no two people—or experiences—are the same. Together, we’ll explore the patterns that may be affecting your well-being, relationships, or daily functioning while building on your strengths. Whether you’re seeking greater understanding, healthier patterns, or support through a difficult transition, we’ll work at a pace that feels thoughtful and manageable.

What you can expect from me

My therapeutic approach is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), two evidence-based approaches that support meaningful, lasting change. CBT helps clients understand how thoughts influence emotions and behaviors, while DBT provides practical skills for managing intense emotions, coping with stress, and improving relationships. Mindfulness is a core component of DBT and is also an evidence-based practice in its own right. I incorporate mindfulness into therapy to help clients slow down, increase awareness of their internal experiences, and respond to themselves with greater curiosity and compassion. Rather than trying to "clear the mind" or do mindfulness perfectly, the goal is to cultivate awareness without judgment. Together, these approaches promote insight, emotional balance, and practical skills that clients can use in everyday life.
