Great to meet you!

Hi there, my name is Abby O'Connor, and I am excited to get to know you! I am a licensed professional clinical counselor and have a master's degree of Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Ohio University and am currently enrolled at PennWest University to become dually licensed as an art therapist. I also earned my B.A. in psychology and art from The Ohio State University.

My approach to therapy

In therapy with me, one can expect a creative and inviting approach, not one that is strictly talking. It's hard to be human and use words to describe our feelings and thoughts, which is where art comes into play! You may be asking, "Do I need to be an artist or be creative to use this type of therapy?" The answer is no! The use of visual expression is part of the human experience and is considered common language no matter what background someone possesses. Though I also understand that engaging in creativity is a vulnerable process, my goal is to offer you support by walking along side you.

What you can expect from me

During your first session with me we will take the time to get to know each other and feel out the vibe! The most important part of the therapeutic relationship is feeling safe within the space and relationship. We will go over policies, confidentiality, expectations for session, and anything else that feels important to you.
