Great to meet you!

Greetings, I’m Dr. Adwoa Akhu, a licensed clinical psychologist with over 25 years of experience. Clients often describe me as calm, thoughtful, and direct. I work best with people who are high-functioning, self-aware, and emotionally tired—those who are doing ‘fine’ on the outside but know something needs attention on the inside. My approach is relational, culturally responsive, and grounded in both psychological science and deep respect for the whole person.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is relational, thoughtful, and grounded. I offer a calm, nonjudgmental space where we can slow things down and look honestly at what’s happening beneath the surface. While I value practical tools, I’m less interested in quick fixes and more focused on helping you develop insight, emotional clarity, and self-trust. My work is culturally responsive and integrates psychological science with respect for meaning, values, and—when relevant—spiritual frameworks. The goal is not just symptom relief, but greater inner steadiness and peace.

What you can expect from me

During the first session, we’ll focus on getting a clear sense of what brings you in and what you’re hoping to get out of our work together. I’ll ask thoughtful questions, listen closely, and help you begin to organize your experiences in a way that feels grounding rather than overwhelming. Clients often say they feel heard, understood, and more settled by the end of our first conversation. There’s no pressure to perform or explain everything perfectly—this is a space to begin exactly where you are.
