Great to meet you!

Hi! My name is Afia. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with an earned Masters degree from Central Connecticut State University. I have over 10 years of experience in the mental health sector and have explored, incorporated and utilized many of the skills I gained from community and health settings to enhance myself as a therapist.

My approach to therapy

I use a person-centered and trauma-informed approach that incorporates mainly CBT and DBT to tend to my clients needs. With an adaptive and enthusiastic personality, I have years of experience helping clients and groups who struggle with mood disorders, trauma, anxiety, adjustment disorders, stress/anger management, substance use, postpartum depression and so much more.

What you can expect from me

As a women of color with a bicultural identity, I am a strong believer in social justice and inclusive practices. I welcome the opportunity to learn from my clients and have worked with a multitude of individuals from different racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. My goal is to offer clients an empathetic, non judgmental, yet validating space where they can be open, emotional, honest, vulnerable, and confront their problems, while developing life long skills beyond the therapeutic setting.
