Great to meet you!

Hi hi, I’m Ajalaa!

I’m a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor who works with adults and older teens (17+) navigating the very real, sometimes messy parts of life — relationships, identity, big life changes, chronic illness, anxiety, feeling stuck, or those “I have no idea what I’m doing right now” seasons.

If the idea of therapy feels a little awkward or intimidating, you’re definitely not alone. You don’t need to walk into my office with the perfect words, a list of goals, or even know exactly what’s bothering you. Just walk in as you, and we can figure the rest out together.... (that's my favorite part)!

My style is warm, down-to-earth, collaborative, and very much human. Therapy with me isn’t about sitting across from someone who just nods and asks, “And how does that make you feel?” for 50 minutes. We’ll talk, laugh when it’s appropriate, sit with the hard stuff when we need to, and work together to actually understand what’s going on beneath the surface.

My approach to therapy

There’s also no one-size-fits-all version of therapy. What works beautifully for one person might not work at all for someone else, and that’s okay! I pull from Narrative Therapy, DBT, ACT, CBT, and Psychodynamic Therapy to create an approach that fits you — not the other way around.

Together, we might unpack old patterns, work on boundaries, navigate complicated relationships, build healthier coping skills, understand your emotions, or simply create a space where you don’t have to have it all together for once.

A little about the person behind the therapist ✨

I’m biracial, the oldest of seven siblings (yes... seven 😅), and I live with lupus, amongst a few other health challenges. Those parts of my own story have shaped the way I see people, relationships, identity, resilience, and even the connection between our physical and emotional well-being.

Living with my own health challenges has also sparked a genuine passion for strengthening my knowledge of the relationship between physical health and mental health — and all the ways the two can play off of each other. I understand that managing your health isn’t always just about what’s happening physically. It can impact your relationships, identity, confidence, emotions, routines, energy, and how you experience everyday life. And sometimes, the emotional side of living with health challenges deserves just as much attention as the physical side.

What you can expect from me

My experiences have taught me that life can be complicated, people are layered, and our minds and bodies don’t exist separately from one another. Sometimes you need someone in your corner who understands that what you’re experiencing may be more complex than it looks from the outside.

I’m especially passionate about working with BIPOC clients, people navigating chronic illness, autoimmune conditions, or other ongoing health challenges, and anyone who has ever felt misunderstood, overlooked, or like they’ve had to make themselves smaller to fit into certain spaces.

But you don’t need to fit into a specific box to work with me. Maybe life has changed and you’re trying to find your footing again. Maybe your relationships feel exhausting. Maybe you’re learning who you are outside of everyone else’s expectations. Or maybe everything looks “fine” on paper, but something just doesn’t feel fine.

Whatever brought you here, you don’t have to have it all figured out.

Bring yourself, your story, your questions, your messy thoughts, and even your awkward silences. I’ll meet you there. 💛
