Great to meet you!

I'm a board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice, and I've spent the last 10 years working in substance use disorder and mental health care, most of that time in Nevada's rural communities. I work with clients of all ages, and I care deeply about making quality mental health care accessible to people who have often had to go without it. Outside of direct patient care, I serve as a voting member of the Northern Regional Behavioral Health Policy Board, where I advocate against the mental health disparities affecting rural communities, and I'm part of the Children's Behavioral Health Transformation Working Group, which works to raise community awareness and expand Medicaid services for children and adolescents. My clinical interests include the integration of behavioral medicine, trauma informed care, suicide prevention, and building out comprehensive treatment for addiction.

My approach to therapy

I practice from evidence-based guidelines, but I blend those guidelines with clinical experience, careful observation, and clinical intuition, because no two people present exactly the same way. My role as a PMHNP is multifaceted: I'm an educator, an advocate, a therapist, and a scientist, and which of those matters most depends on what a client needs at a given moment. I take a whole person, patient centered approach, which means I'm interested in your physical health, your history, your relationships, and your circumstances, not just a diagnosis. I also value interprofessional collaboration and will work with your therapist, primary care provider, or other members of your care team when that will serve you better than working alone. Building real rapport with clients and their families is central to how I practice, and I'm always looking for innovative ways to improve how care gets delivered.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is a conversation, not an interrogation. I'll ask about what brought you in, your symptoms and how they affect your daily life, your medical and psychiatric history, any past treatment and how it went, and what's going on around you in terms of family, work, and stressors. I want to understand the full picture before making recommendations. I'll answer your questions honestly, explain my clinical reasoning, and talk through options including medication, therapy, or referrals so you can make informed decisions about your own care. By the end, we'll have a shared understanding of what we're working on and a plan for next steps. If you'd like a family member or support person present, they're welcome, and my goal is that you leave feeling heard rather than processed.
