Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Alec Whalen, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I spent over 8 years working as a nurse in the emergency department, where I cared for patients during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. That experience shaped how I approach mental health care today, with calmness, compassion, and a focus on truly understanding each person’s story.

I specialize in treating conditions such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, and trauma-related disorders. My approach is patient-centered and collaborative, meaning we work together to find a treatment plan that fits your goals, whether that includes medication, therapy-based strategies, or a more holistic approach.

My approach to therapy

Mental health care shouldn’t feel rushed, judgmental, or overly clinical, it should feel like a safe space where you’re heard and supported.

My goal is simple: to help you feel better, function better, and get back to living a life that feels meaningful to you.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, you can expect a laid-back, judgment-free conversation where we focus on getting a clear picture of what’s been going on and how you’ve been feeling.

We’ll go over your symptoms, history, and any stressors in your life, but more importantly, I want to understand you, not just a checklist of symptoms.

From there, we’ll come up with a plan together that fits your goals. That might include medication, coping strategies, or a mix of both. Nothing is rushed, and you’ll always be part of the decision-making process.

By the end of the session, you should feel like you have direction, clarity, and someone in your corner.
