Great to meet you!

I'm Alecia Christensen, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in California. I believe therapy should be a space where you feel genuinely understood, supported, and safe enough to work through the experiences that have shaped you.

I earned my undergraduate degree in Art Education from Texas Christian University and my graduate degree from UMass Global. My professional work has focused extensively on trauma-informed therapy, with particular experience helping clients navigate anxiety, trauma, difficult relationship patterns, and painful experiences from the past.

I specialize in trauma-informed approaches, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and often work with clients who understand why they feel the way they do but still struggle to change how they feel or respond. Together, we can explore the deeper patterns behind anxiety, self-doubt, relationship difficulties, and emotional triggers while developing tools that help you feel more grounded and secure.

My approach is compassionate, challenging, collaborative, and individualized. I want therapy to be more than simply managing symptoms. I want to help you understand yourself more deeply, process what continues to feel unresolved, and create meaningful changes that carry into your everyday life.

My approach to therapy

My style is warm, supportive, and compassionate, while also being appropriately challenging. I want you to feel safe and understood in therapy, but I also believe meaningful change often requires us to look honestly at patterns, beliefs, and behaviors that may be keeping you stuck.

I take a trauma-informed approach and specialize in working with anxiety, trauma, relationship and attachment patterns, and unresolved experiences from the past. I frequently incorporate EMDR to help clients process experiences that continue to influence how they feel about themselves, their relationships, or the world around them.

I view therapy as a collaborative process. I’ll meet you with empathy and without judgment, while also asking thoughtful questions, offering new perspectives, and gently challenging you when it may help you grow. My goal is not just to help you feel better in the moment, but to help you understand yourself more deeply, break patterns that are no longer serving you, and create lasting change.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin creating a space where you feel comfortable, understood, and supported. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what you’ve been experiencing, and the relationships or experiences that may be contributing to how you’re feeling today. There is no expectation that you share everything at once. We’ll move at a pace that feels manageable for you.

Together, we’ll begin identifying what you would like to change and what you hope to gain from therapy. This might include reducing anxiety, processing past experiences, understanding relationships or attachment patterns, developing healthier ways of coping, or simply feeling more like yourself again. My goal for the first session is for you to leave feeling heard, with a clearer sense of what we can work toward together and what the therapeutic process might look like for you.
