Great to meet you!

I am licensed clinical counselor in the state of Kentucky, with about 8 years experience. For about 5 of those years, I've been in "formation", or training, as a psychoanalyst. I have experience engaging in deep and sustained work with people who find themselves troubled by depression, anxiety, patterns of self-sabotage, and interpersonal and romantic frustration. I can say with humility, but also with confidence, that I have helped and am currently helping many people. If you're troubled, if you're in distress, and, particularly, if you've tried therapy before without finding what you sought, I hope you'll reach out for a consolation.

My approach to therapy

I offer both psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy. If you're not familiar with one or either of these, don't worry--it's no barrier to participation. Both methods emphasize deep and focused listening, with special attention paid to how your relationships to others, past and present, lend shape to present-day difficulties. As you speak about your troubles, I'll be listening, sharing observations, and asking questions that might offer a new way of seeing things. In time, you'll come to relate differently to your own thoughts and feelings, to important others in your life, and to the concerns that brought you to therapy to begin with--incremental changes that can build to a new and more vital sense of who you are and could be.

What you can expect from me

During our first session, I'll be counting on you to bring whatever is troubling you and to speak about it with courage and frankness. I'll be listening closely and will ask questions--and perhaps share preliminary thoughts and observations--about whatever emerges as the central difficulty. Of course, not everything can be said in 50 minutes; together, we'll cultivate a curiosity about the impasses, the ellipses, the "I didn't know I was going to say that" moments--these points at which there might well be more to say in a subsequent session. I'll also very likely ask you to record, in a way that is convenient for you, any dreams which you might have during the time between our sessions. Dreams are important in the kind of work we'll be doing.
