Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Alex

I’m a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), and I provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and medication management for adults across California through telehealth and outpatient care.

Before specializing in psychiatry, I worked in the ICU, step-down, medical-surgical, and case management. This experience has helped me to approach mental health through a unique lens, which has enabled me to understand how medical conditions, stress, trauma, and life transitions all connect.

I earned my BA in Psychology from UC San Diego, completed my Master of Science in Nursing, and later returned to Charles R. Drew University, where I graduated at the top of my class in the PMHNP program. I was honored with the Dean’s Leadership Award and selected to attend the AACN Student Policy Summit in Washington, D.C., where I advocated for expanded access to mental health care.

I treat conditions including depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, and trauma-related disorders. Clients often describe my demeanor as calm and grounded. I have a naturally deep, steady voice and bring a reassuring energy that helps create a space where you can slow down, reflect, and feel supported. My approach is structured and collaborative. I believe in explaining the “why” behind symptoms and medications so you feel informed, empowered, and never overwhelmed.

Treatment may include thoughtful medication management alongside practical, evidence-based strategies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), behavioral activation, motivational interviewing, and strength-based interventions. I prioritize careful assessment, conservative prescribing, and shared decision-making.

If you’re looking for a provider who listens closely, thinks critically, and partners with you in building a clear plan, I would be honored to support your care 🌱

My approach to therapy

My approach to care is structured and collaborative with thoughtful assessments. I believe effective psychiatric treatment begins with a careful understanding of the full picture, not just symptoms, but medical history, stressors, life transitions, trauma, and personal strengths. Mental health rarely exists in isolation, which is why I look beyond diagnoses to better understand how your experiences and environment influence your mood, behavior, relationships, and overall well-being.

I believe you deserve to understand what is happening biologically and psychologically, as well as why a particular medication or treatment strategy is being recommended. I prioritize clarity and education to make sure you feel informed and empowered.

In addition to pharmacologic care, I incorporate practical, skills-based strategies to provide both symptom relief and tools that promote long-term stability. Above all, I strive to create a calm environment where you feel heard, respected, and supported. My role is not just to prescribe, but to partner with you in building a personalized program that actually works.

What you can expect from me

During your first session, you can expect a comprehensive and thoughtful evaluation 📝. We’ll spend time reviewing your current concerns, symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, past treatments, medications, and any life stressors that may be impacting your well-being. My goal is to understand the full context, not just what’s happening now, but how we arrived here.

I take a structured yet conversational approach. I’ll ask focused questions to clarify patterns in mood, anxiety, sleep, attention, and functioning, while also giving you space to share your story in your own words. You won’t be rushed.

If medication is appropriate, we’ll discuss options in detail, including how they work, potential benefits, side effects, and alternatives, so you feel informed and involved in the decision-making process. If medication isn’t indicated, we’ll discuss other evidence-based strategies and next steps.

By the end of the session, you can expect a clear plan moving forward, whether that includes medication, therapeutic strategies, lifestyle adjustments, or further evaluation. My goal is for you to leave feeling understood, supported, and confident about the direction of your care.
