Great to meet you!

I’m Alex Waitt, a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with adults and young adults navigating anxiety, depression, and life transitions. I hold a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Chatham University and a second master’s degree in Education and Adult Learning from Duquesne University. My background includes counseling, crisis intervention, and helping other professionals develop their counseling skills. Alongside my clinical work, I train and coach helping professionals in Motivational Interviewing, with an emphasis on listening, understanding, and supporting people in making their own decisions. You don’t need to know exactly what’s wrong or have a clear plan before reaching out. Whether you’re facing a particular challenge or simply noticing that life hasn’t felt like yourself lately, we can start there.

My approach to therapy

My style is conversational, collaborative, and direct. I want to understand how you see your situation, not assume I already know what you need. There’s room to slow down, talk honestly, and make sense of what’s happening without feeling pressured to have the right answers.

Motivational Interviewing is central to how I work. Together, we’ll explore what matters to you, what’s getting in the way, and where you may feel pulled in different directions. I’ll ask thoughtful questions, share observations, and offer practical strategies while respecting your choices and pace.

I aim to balance understanding with useful action. That might mean recognizing a recurring pattern, finding a different way to respond to stress, or taking a manageable step toward something important to you.

What you can expect from me

We’ll start with what brought you in and what feels most important for me to understand. I’ll ask about how you’ve been feeling, how things are affecting your daily life, relevant parts of your history, and what has or hasn’t helped before. You won’t need to tell your whole story at once.

I’ll also explain how I work, discuss confidentiality and its limits, and leave room for your questions. You’re welcome to tell me when something is difficult to discuss or when I haven’t quite understood you.

Together, we’ll begin identifying what you’d like help with and what a useful next step could look like. My goal is for you to leave feeling heard, with a clearer sense of how we might work together and whether that feels like a good fit.
