Great to meet you!

I’m Alexis Riggs, MS, CRC, LPC — a Wisconsin native, therapist, and the founder of AbleMind Counseling. I provide secure, HIPAA‐compliant telehealth therapy across Wisconsin, with a special focus on supporting individuals with disabilities and young adults navigating anxiety, stress, life transitions, and emotional challenges.

My work is shaped by both professional expertise and lived experience. Born without the lower portion of both arms, I’ve spent more than seven years working with and advocating alongside individuals with disabilities. This background informs a practice rooted in empathy, respect, accessibility, and genuine understanding.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts from Ripon College in Anthropology and Sociology, and my Master of Science in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. I’m a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in strengths‐based, collaborative care.

Outside of therapy, I love reading, traveling, being outdoors, and spending time with my two dogs, Finn and Rosie.

My approach to therapy

My approach is inclusive, strengths‐based, and deeply collaborative. I believe every mind is capable and every voice matters, and I work to create a space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered.

I use evidence‐based practices to help clients build resilience, develop self‐advocacy skills, and navigate challenges such as anxiety, depression, academic stress, life transitions, and self‐esteem concerns. My style is warm, affirming, and grounded in real‐world understanding — especially for clients with disabilities who may have felt misunderstood or overlooked in traditional therapy settings.

Therapy with me is a partnership. I meet clients where they are, honor their lived experiences, and help them build practical tools that support meaningful, lasting emotional wellness.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is a welcoming, supportive space designed to help you feel comfortable, understood, and grounded. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, explore your goals, and begin identifying the strengths and resources you already have.

Clients can expect:

A calm, affirming environment where your voice is centered

  • Space to share your story at your own pace
  • Gentle questions that help us understand your needs
  • Early steps toward building insight, coping strategies, and resilience
  • A collaborative plan for what you’d like to work on moving forward

Because sessions are fully virtual, you can show up from the comfort of your own space — no travel, no barriers, just accessible, confidential support tailored to you.
