Great to meet you!

Hi - I’m Alicia, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I worked in higher education for 10 years, providing academic and psychosocial support to undergraduate and graduate (medical) students. While I loved my career, I always wanted to do more when my students shared their life stressors, which led me to change careers.

As someone who was late in life to therapy (both personally and professionally), I understand how important it is to find the right fit.

Before landing in Colorado, I had the privilege of traveling the world as a military brat. This fostered a love of learning, and, in addition to my Social Work degree, I also hold degrees in History and Political Science. My academic career focused on international relations, war, and human rights.

Today, I specialize in working with active duty military, reservists, and veterans (I am a Star Behavioral Health Provider), but am excited to work with people from all walks of life as we navigate shared human experiences. I have extensive experience working with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders, and am EMDR trained.

My approach to therapy

My primary approach is relational - building the relationship between us will be the key to success.

While doing the work of therapy can be hard, it is also a time to find moments of humor (dark or otherwise). I have been known to throw in a pop culture reference, and might give you a book recommendation (therapy or otherwise, but I’m also open to those suggestions). Clients have described me as funny and compassionate, as well as direct and confrontational when needed.

Growing up outside of the US and relocating every few years allowed me to meet people from all walks of life. Open dialogue and empathy are at the core of my work.

Psychoeducation is a passion of mine. It’s only through having a mutual understanding of goals, diagnoses, and treatment options that we can make progress.

What you can expect from me

Curiosity is central to the first session. We’ll explore what brought you to therapy, what your goals are, and what you’ve tried before—what has helped, what hasn’t, and what you might be open to trying next. This helps us understand your experiences and begin shaping a path forward that feels right for you.

A first session isn’t a lifetime commitment to working together. It’s an opportunity for both of us to get a feel for the connection and determine if it’s a good fit. My goal is to show up as my authentic self, create a space where you feel comfortable confiding in me, and begin partnering with you to help you move toward the life you want.
