Great to meet you!

Allahna Kaj has a fresh, integrative approach to individualized psychotherapy. She grounds her work in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which provides a framework for helping her clients understand and regulate their thoughts, emotions, behavior and reactions. Allahna also works with her client’s values and uses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients accept difficult emotions and begin things that are out of our personal control and commit to steps that are in line with their values. She has seven years of experience as a Group Facilitator and Individual Therapist in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), an evidence-based skills and mindfulness-based approach for creating emotional regulation and insight. She has also been trained in Clinical Hypnosis which, for some, offers a fresh approach to developing healthy life and emotional patterns.

My approach to therapy

I base my work on a deep belief in the power of the therapeutic relationship. I also deeply believe in the effectiveness of research-supported techniques like CBT, DBT, ACT, EMDR and Clinical Hypnosis. But it’s the therapeutic relationship that brings those techniques to life. It creates a dynamic synergy that’s larger than the sum of its parts. I offer psychoeducation, role-plays and often ask my clients to journal between sessions with words, music, art or poetry to help process their emotions.

What you can expect from me

I’ll walk with you as we look back on the past and we’ll look forward to envision what could be. We’ll find the pivot points, anticipate the roadblocks and try out your work-arounds.

My special passion is integrating my clients’ religious and spiritual beliefs into traditional therapy. I identify as Christian and I was raised in the church. I left at 21, traveled and returned, but I've been blessed by taking a long walk within Hindu, Buddhist, Islamic and Sufi traditions.
