I am licensed as both a clinical mental health counselor and a clinical social worker. I have experience working in hospitals, nursing homes, and schools. Most recently I have been working as a school-based therapist with children from ages 5-18, though I am comfortable and willing to work with all ages.
I strive to make all my sessions feel genuine and I do that through humor, compassion, and honesty. I believe therapy should feel relaxed and more conversational rather than a stuffy, impersonal interaction. The goal is for the client to see growth in the areas they want and that is where we focus on time and energy.
The first session is very laid back. I will ask some background questions to help us start to build a positive relationship, and we will discuss your goals for therapy. I want you to feel comfortable with me before we start to get into the more challenging topics that therapy can include.
