Great to meet you!

I’m Amanda Angus, MSN, APRN, CRNA, PMHNP-BC, and I provide psychiatric care for adolescents and adults ages 16 and older.

My healthcare background includes years of critical care nursing and more than a decade of practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Throughout my career, I have cared for people during vulnerable, stressful, and often frightening moments. That experience shaped my belief that patients deserve to feel heard, respected, informed, and involved in their care.

My medical and psychiatric training allows me to consider how mental health may be affected by physical health, chronic pain, medications, sleep, hormones, stress, trauma, and major life transitions.

My areas of focus include depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD, ADHD, insomnia, mood changes, and women’s mental health. I have a particular interest in supporting women during pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause, and other significant hormonal or life transitions. I also work with individuals experiencing chronic medical conditions, chronic pain, treatment-resistant symptoms, or previous healthcare experiences that have made them hesitant to seek psychiatric care.

Outside of work, I am an animal lover and former veterinary technician. My life includes rescue animals, three black cats, and Bobo, a small therapy dog who may occasionally be part of the office environment. I also enjoy baking, riding motorcycles, and activities that challenge me to step outside my comfort zone

My approach to therapy

My approach is collaborative, practical, and individualized. I believe psychiatric treatment should involve more than assigning a diagnosis or prescribing medication. It should begin with understanding who you are, what you have experienced, and what you hope will improve.

Many people seek psychiatric care feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, or unsure where to begin. You may have been told your symptoms are “just stress,” tried treatments that did not feel right, or spent years caring for others while placing your own needs last. My goal is to provide a supportive environment where you can speak honestly without fear of judgment.

Treatment may include medication management, supportive therapy, education, lifestyle recommendations, and coordination with your other healthcare providers. I want you to understand your options, participate in treatment decisions, and feel comfortable asking questions.

I do not believe in simply prescribing medication and sending you on your way. We will regularly discuss how treatment is working, any concerns or side effects you are experiencing, and whether changes are needed. My goal is for you to leave each appointment with a clear and realistic plan.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is an opportunity for me to learn about you as a whole person—not just the symptoms that brought you to treatment.

We will discuss what you are currently experiencing, when your symptoms began, and how they are affecting your relationships, work, sleep, health, and daily life. We will also review your medical and psychiatric history, current and previous medications, prior treatment experiences, family history, substance use, and any significant stressors or traumatic experiences that may be relevant.

You will have time to talk about what has and has not worked for you in the past, your concerns about treatment, and the goals you would like to work toward. You do not need to have everything figured out or know exactly what to say before your appointment.

By the end of the session, we will discuss my initial impressions and possible treatment options. Together, we will develop a plan that may include medication, therapy recommendations, lifestyle strategies, additional evaluation, laboratory testing, or coordination with another healthcare provider.

Most importantly, you can come as you are. The first session is not about judging you or expecting you to explain everything perfectly. It is the beginning of working together to better understand what is happening and help you move toward feeling more stable, confident, and like yourself again.
