Great to meet you!

Being a teenager or young adult today comes with a lot: academic pressure, big life decisions, and the kind of stress that can feel impossible to explain to people who have not lived through it. I am Amanda Geier, and I have spent my career alongside young people, as a high school counselor, a former adjunct professor and academic advisor at Shippensburg University, and a former Division II track and field athlete myself, so I understand performance pressure firsthand. Through that work I have supported teens and young adults facing anxiety, depression, ADHD, academic struggles, stress and overwhelm, athletic performance stress, career and college decisions, relationship challenges, and identity and race related concerns. I started A Reflective Pause Counseling because every young person deserves a place to pause, be heard, and feel safe being exactly who they are.

My approach to therapy

As your therapist, I strive to be warm, empathetic, supportive, and non-judgmental. I’ll listen and meet you where you are, but I will also gently challenge you & offer a different perspective when it may be helpful.

In therapy, I want to learn about you, through your self-narrative. This helps me see things from your perspective. And just speaking your truth can be therapeutic in and of itself. You need and deserve to be heard!

My hope is that throughout the entire therapeutic process, I can empower you so that You are the one in the driver's seat. And I will be along side you to listen, validate, and support you, while also challenging you and assisting you with tools to help you navigate the road ahead.

What you can expect from me

I know coming to therapy and meeting someone new can be uncomfortable and sometimes awkward at first, so my goal is to make it low pressure and welcoming.

I like to start by getting to know you. We will start by discussing what brought you to therapy, what you hope to be different and what you hope to get from therapy. Don't feel pressured to have the “right” answers or know exactly what you want out of therapy the first day, that is something we will figure out together. I also like to give you time to ask me questions about therapy or anything that you may be wondering about before moving into deeper stuff. My goal is not to overwhelm you in the first session, rather for us to get to know each other and work towards building trust.
