Great to meet you!

Hello! My name is Dr. Amanda Lamelas, and I am a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner committed to providing compassionate, personalized, and inclusive mental health care. I earned both my Master of Science in Nursing and my Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degrees from Florida International University. As a queer provider, I bring a lived understanding of the importance of safe, affirming care — something I strive to create for every person who walks through my door. I offer psychiatric evaluations, medication management (for both controlled and non-controlled medications), and supportive psychotherapy when appropriate. I specialize in treating ADHD, anxiety, depression, OCD, and LGBTQ+ mental health concerns. I work with children (ages 6+), adolescents, and adults, ensuring each individual receives care that is warm, respectful, and tailored to their unique experiences. My approach is holistic and collaborative — I truly believe the best outcomes happen when we work together as a team. I take time to listen, understand your story, and develop a plan that aligns with your goals and values. Above all, I want you to feel safe, seen, and supported from our very first session.

My approach to therapy

I believe my greatest strengths lie in my ability to listen deeply, connect authentically, and create a space where patients feel genuinely comfortable opening up. I show up with warmth, empathy, and zero judgment. As someone who understands firsthand how much it matters to feel accepted for who you are, I strive to cultivate an environment that is safe, inclusive, and empowering. My clinical style blends evidence-based practices with compassion and real-world practicality. My doctoral training further deepened my commitment to providing high-quality, culturally sensitive, trauma-informed care. More than anything, I want you to feel understood and supported every step of the way.

In practice, I use a mix of approaches to make sure you feel supported in a way that fits you. I start with a thoughtful psychiatric evaluation, and if medication becomes part of your plan, I’ll guide you through it clearly and collaboratively. I also use evidence-based tools — like CBT techniques and mindfulness — to help you build practical coping skills. Psychoeducation matters to me because understanding what you're experiencing can make the path forward feel less overwhelming. As a queer provider, creating a safe, inclusive, affirming space is central to my work. My goal is for you to feel informed, supported, and never alone as we move toward meaningful, lasting change.

What you can expect from me

Our first visit is a chance for us to get to know one another. We’ll discuss your current concerns, personal and mental health history, and what you hope to improve. I’ll complete a mental status exam, share my diagnostic impressions, and walk you through treatment options — medication, therapy referrals, lifestyle strategies, or a combination tailored to you. I want you to leave that session feeling heard, validated, and hopeful, with a clear understanding of our next steps. Each appointment is also an opportunity to build insight and strengthen practical coping tools that help you feel more grounded in your day-to-day life.

I am best positioned to support children ages 6+, adolescents, and adults seeking compassionate, affirming, and personalized mental health care. I specialize in ADHD, anxiety, depression, OCD, LGBTQ+ mental health concerns, bipolar disorder, trauma-related conditions, mood and personality disorders, sleep issues, thought disorders, and many more — and I welcome individuals navigating complex or overlapping symptoms. My approach works especially well for patients who value a warm, collaborative relationship with their provider and who want an active role in shaping their treatment plan. Whether you're just beginning your mental health journey or looking for a provider who truly listens and understands, I would be honored to support you. Together, we’ll build a plan that fosters healing, resilience, and meaningful, lasting change.
