Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Amanda Lawal, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, founder of Rooted Mental Health Services.

I believe effective psychiatric care starts with listening. Many people come to treatment feeling unheard, misunderstood, or frustrated after years of struggling with symptoms that haven't improved. My goal is to provide a thorough evaluation, understand the whole picture, and work collaboratively to develop a treatment plan that makes sense for you.

I specialize in the assessment and treatment of anxiety disorders, ADHD, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma-related conditions, insomnia, and women's mental health concerns. I also have a particular interest in helping adults who have gone years without receiving an accurate diagnosis, including individuals with ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, sleep disorders, and mood disorders.

My approach is evidence-based, compassionate, and practical. I consider not only emotional symptoms, but also the impact of sleep, medical conditions, hormones, stress, relationships, and life experiences on mental health. Medication can be an important tool, but treatment is never one-size-fits-all. I take time to discuss options, answer questions, and ensure you feel informed and comfortable with your care plan.

Before becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I spent many years working as a registered nurse in both medical and behavioral health settings. That experience continues to shape my understanding of the connection between physical and mental health.

I work with adults throughout Illinois and Washington via telehealth. Whether you're seeking answers for longstanding symptoms, navigating a major life transition, or looking for support in reaching your goals, I strive to create a space where you feel respected, understood, and empowered in your treatment journey.

My approach to therapy

My approach to care is collaborative, evidence-based, and individualized. I believe that effective treatment begins with understanding the whole person—not just their symptoms. During our work together, I take time to explore factors that may be affecting mental health, including sleep, physical health, hormones, life stressors, relationships, past experiences, and neurodevelopmental differences such as ADHD or autism.

I view medication as one tool among many and work closely with clients to ensure they understand their options and feel comfortable with their treatment plan. My goal is not simply to reduce symptoms, but to help clients improve their overall quality of life, functioning, and sense of well-being.

I strive to create a supportive, judgment-free environment where clients feel heard, respected, and actively involved in decisions about their care. Whether you're seeking help for anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, insomnia, or navigating a difficult life transition, I aim to provide thoughtful, compassionate care tailored to your unique needs and goals.

What you can expect from me

During your first appointment, we'll spend time getting to know each other and discussing what brings you to treatment. I'll ask questions about your current symptoms, mental health history, medical history, medications, sleep, family history, and life experiences to gain a comprehensive understanding of your situation.

My evaluations are thorough because I believe accurate diagnosis is the foundation of effective treatment. Together, we'll explore not only your symptoms, but also potential contributing factors such as stress, trauma, sleep issues, medical conditions, hormonal changes, or neurodevelopmental differences like ADHD or autism.

You'll have plenty of opportunity to ask questions and share your concerns. By the end of the session, we'll discuss my diagnostic impressions, review treatment options, and develop an initial plan tailored to your goals. My goal is for you to leave feeling heard, understood, and with a clear understanding of the next steps in your care.
