Great to meet you!

Hello! I'm Amanda Long, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to serving families through compassionate, culturally sensitive mental health care. I earned my Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University and have been practicing as a PMHNP since 2019, with over a decade of nursing experience beginning in 2011. My educational foundation also includes a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois in Springfield, which broadened my understanding of human behavior and community dynamics. My journey in mental health has taken me through diverse settings that have shaped my comprehensive approach to care. I've worked in psychiatric emergency services at a major hospital, 23-hour crisis stabilization units, outpatient clinics, correctional facilities, and forensic mental health centers, including fitness-to-stand-trial evaluations. This varied experience has equipped me to understand mental health from multiple perspectives and meet people wherever they are in their journey, whether they're facing an acute crisis or seeking ongoing support. I specialize in medication management for individuals across the lifespan—from children and adolescents to adults and older adults. My treatment areas include depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, trauma-related conditions, psychotic disorders, and other mental health concerns. I'm experienced in both telehealth and in-person care, making quality psychiatric services accessible and convenient for your lifestyle. What drives me is the belief that everyone deserves competent, caring mental health support that honors their unique background and circumstances. I'm committed to improving the communities I serve, one individual and family at a time, through evidence-based practice combined with genuine human connection. My approach centers on partnership and creating a safe environment for healing. I look forward to supporting you and your family's wellness journey.

My approach to therapy

My philosophy emphasizes genuine partnership and deep regard for each individual's unique journey. You are the expert on your own experience, and I am here to support you with clinical proficiency, authentic compassion, and unwavering dedication as you pursue mental wellness.

During our medication management sessions, I prioritize understanding your particular symptoms, personal goals, and everyday circumstances. Every treatment decision we explore is genuinely collaborative, thoughtfully examining how it aligns with your daily life, core values, and overall health. I never lose sight of the fact that behind every clinical decision is a real person with real hopes, and that reality guides everything I do.

I am committed to transparently exploring all available options, addressing your concerns carefully, and ensuring you feel authentically respected and understood throughout our work together. I recognize that initiating or adjusting psychiatric treatment can feel daunting, so I maintain a welcoming, judgment-free environment where you can communicate openly about your progress and challenges.

My approach combines evidence-based psychiatric medicine with holistic attention to the lifestyle factors that shape mental health. I remain accessible between appointments to address questions as they arise, continuously monitor treatment effectiveness, and make adjustments based on your feedback and response. I believe in starting medications thoughtfully and evolving our approach as your needs change. I also coordinate with your other healthcare providers when beneficial to ensure comprehensive, integrated care.

My fundamental goal is supporting you not merely in reducing symptoms, but in restoring hope, establishing balance, and moving toward the life you deserve. I will meet you exactly as you are — without judgment or expectation — and proceed at whatever pace feels right. Your wellness and comfort remain my highest priorities.

What you can expect from me

From the moment we begin, my highest priority is ensuring you feel genuinely seen, heard, and valued. Our first appointment is dedicated to getting to know you — not merely your symptoms or history, but you as a whole person with a unique narrative and a distinct set of circumstances.

We will explore what brought you here at this point, what you have experienced before, and what outcomes you are hoping to achieve. I am a strong advocate for collaborative decision-making, which means you will be an active partner in every choice we navigate together — never a passive recipient of care. Your perspective is not simply welcomed — it is essential to creating a plan that authentically works for you.

I take time to review your psychiatric background and prior treatment experiences, because understanding what has and has not been effective in the past is vital to charting the best path forward. If medication becomes a beneficial direction, we will discuss your options together — what each one does, what results to realistically expect, potential side effects to monitor, and how we will gauge progress as a team. I communicate in clear, accessible language because you deserve full transparency about every aspect of your own care.

We will also evaluate lifestyle factors and additional resources that could strengthen your overall well-being. Your plan will reflect the complete individuality of your situation, goals, and values — whether that includes medication, adjustments to daily habits, or a thoughtful combination of both.

I stay reachable between appointments and coordinate with your other providers whenever collaboration elevates the quality of your care. By the end of our appointment, you will have a solid understanding of our direction forward. This is your space — and everything we pursue will be shaped by what matters most to you. You deserve a provider who recognizes all of who you are, and that is exactly what I am here to be.
