Great to meet you!

I’m Amir Mahmoud, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a background in psychology, nursing, and healthcare leadership. My clinical experience spans psychiatric care, critical care nursing, and integrative approaches to mental health.

I work with individuals experiencing ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood concerns, trauma-related symptoms, sleep difficulties, and other challenges that can interfere with everyday life. I have a particular interest in ADHD and in helping people better understand how their brain, attention, emotions, and behavioral patterns work together.

My goal is to provide thoughtful, individualized psychiatric care rather than simply matching a symptom to a medication. I want you to understand what may be contributing to how you feel, what your options are, and why we are choosing a particular treatment plan.

My approach to therapy

My approach is collaborative, practical, and rooted in both neuroscience and evidence-based psychiatric care. I look beyond a diagnosis alone to understand the patterns affecting your attention, mood, nervous system, relationships, sleep, environment, and daily functioning.

Medication can be an important tool, but it is rarely the entire picture. Depending on your needs, we may also explore behavioral strategies, psychotherapy-informed approaches, lifestyle factors, nervous-system regulation, and practical changes that make it easier for your brain to function well in everyday life.

I value curiosity over judgment. Instead of asking only, “What’s wrong?” I’m interested in understanding what is happening, what keeps the pattern going, and what could help change it. Treatment is something we develop together, with clear goals and regular adjustments based on your response.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is an opportunity for us to build a clear picture of what you are experiencing and what you would like to change. We’ll discuss your current symptoms and concerns, mental and physical health history, medications and previous treatments, sleep, attention, mood, stressors, relationships, daily functioning, and other factors that may be relevant.

I also want to understand what life looks like when things are going well for you—not simply what is going wrong.

By the end of the visit, my goal is for you to leave with greater clarity about what may be happening, the options available to you, and a practical next-step treatment plan. When appropriate, that may include medication, behavioral or therapeutic strategies, additional assessment, or a combination of approaches.

I want the environment to feel conversational and collaborative. You should feel comfortable asking questions, understanding the reasoning behind recommendations, and having an active role in decisions about your care.
