Great to meet you!

Great to meet you!

A lot of women are told they're depressed when what's actually happening is hormonal, thyroid-related, or both. Sorting out which is which is most of my work.

I'm Amy Chong, a nurse practitioner board-certified in both psychiatric-mental health and family practice, with 17 years of experience. That dual training is the point: I can evaluate the psychiatric picture and the medical one in the same visit, instead of sending you elsewhere and hoping the two halves meet.

I work with women through perimenopause and menopause, postpartum, and PMDD — the stretch of years when sleep, mood, focus, and energy all shift at once and nobody connects them.

I also see adults for depression, anxiety, ADHD including late diagnosis, trauma, and sleep problems.

Sessions in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.

My approach to therapy

No two people arrive with the same story, and the same diagnosis rarely has the same cause twice. Part of my job is figuring out which version you have.

It's not in your head, and you're not the only one. What you're describing usually has a pattern underneath it — I want to find it with you.

So I ask about the sequence: when things shifted, what else was going on, what helps and what doesn't, what was happening years before this looked like a mood problem. Hormones, gut health, and cognition are more connected than we usually treat them as being, and it takes time to unlayer.

My goal is sleeping through the night, a quieter mind, steady energy, and the resilience to handle what comes — feeling like yourself again, and staying there.

Medication is one tool and often a good one. I prescribe deliberately, looking for the smallest effective dose against a clear target — alongside sleep, rhythm, nutrition, movement, and cycle timing. Where labs are warranted I order them, and we read them together. And when working with a therapist would help, I'll help you find one.

What you can expect from me

Your first visit is 60 minutes evaluation. I want the timeline — when things changed, what else was going on in your body at the time, what you've already tried and how each thing landed. We'll go through your medications and supplements together, and if labs make sense, I'll order them and we'll read them together.

Between visits, I'll usually give you something concrete to track — sleep, symptoms against your cycle, how a change actually landed. Not homework for its own sake. It's how we tell what's working.

My aim is that you leave understanding your own pattern well enough to recognize it without me. Follow-ups run 15 to 30 minutes, every 2 to 4 weeks while we calibrate, then every 1 to 3 months.

I evaluate the hormonal and medical contributors to psychiatric symptoms, and coordinate with your OB-GYN or primary care provider on treatment that falls outside psychiatric care.

I accept Aetna and I'm taking new patients. Book directly through my Headway profile.
