Great to meet you!

My name is Amy Kilgore and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Virginia. I am passionate about serving others on their healing journey and love to witness my clients step out in courage toward a healthier, more productive, and fulfilling life. I have a Bachelor of Science is Psychology and Master of Education in Mental Health Counseling. I am a Certified Trauma Clinical Professional (CTCP), trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and certified in TF-CBT (Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).

A bit about my approach to therapy

My approach is integrative in that I combine various theories and techniques to address the unique needs of a given client. Though my approach is holistic and varies based on individual needs, at the crux of my work is a faith-based perspective within a cognitive-behavioral framework. It is my belief that faith and reason are without conflict and that mental, spiritual, and emotional well-being are interdependent. Modalities I often utilize in conjunction with cognitive behavioral therapy include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Attachment-Based Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Somatic Therapy, and Trauma Therapy (including EMDR and TF-CBT).

What you can expect from our first session

I strive to set a calm, structured, and judgment-free atmosphere to create space for open communication and relationship-building. I view goal setting as a collaborative process, using information from the clinical interview (first session) to guide clients in setting realistic and measurable goals to address treatment needs.
