Your child’s first appointment is a supportive, family-centered conversation designed to better understand their emotional, behavioral, developmental, and mental health needs. The visit will take place by secure video.
A parent or legal guardian should plan to participate, particularly for younger children. We will begin by confirming your child’s location and contact information, reviewing telehealth consent, and discussing privacy and safety. Please choose a quiet, private space with a reliable internet connection. Your child may be asked to spend part of the visit speaking privately with the provider when developmentally appropriate.
During the assessment, I will discuss your concerns; your child’s symptoms, strengths, medical and developmental history, school experience, relationships, sleep, appetite, and daily functioning. I may ask about family history, past treatment, medications, and any recent stressors. Parent-, child-, or teacher-completed rating scales may be requested to help clarify concerns.
I will work with your family to identify possible diagnoses, answer questions, and develop a personalized plan. Recommendations may include therapy, parent supports, school accommodations, further testing, medication evaluation or management when appropriate, community resources, or an in-person follow-up if needed. Not every child receives a final diagnosis or treatment decision at the first visit; sometimes additional information, records, or follow-up appointments are needed.
Please have available any prior evaluations, school records or IEP/504 plans, a current medication list, and contact information for your child’s primary care clinician and therapist, if applicable. My goal is to partner with your family in creating a plan that supports your child’s well-being and success.
