Great to meet you!

Hello! I'm Anastasia Newton, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from City University of Seattle. Before private practice, I worked across a range of settings, including the military (I'm a veteran myself), private non-profits, court systems, educational systems, and medical and mental health agencies. That range has given me experience with a wide variety of concerns, populations, and life circumstances, and it shapes how I show up with clients: I don't assume there's one right way through something.

My approach to therapy

My core approach is psychodynamic. I'm interested in how past experience and unconscious patterns continue to shape your thoughts, emotions, and behavior in the present. I lean on other tools when they're useful, but psychodynamic thinking is where I start. I strive to create a space where you can explore all of this openly and without judgment. We look beneath what's on the surface to understand the role it's playing in what you're struggling with today.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, we'll start by building trust. That's the foundation everything else is built on. I'll ask about what's bringing you in now, but also about your history: family, relationships, and the experiences that have shaped how you move through the world. From there, we start noticing the patterns underneath your current struggles, whether that's in your identity, your relationships, or how stress and past experience show up in your day-to-day life.
