Great to meet you!

For three decades, I’ve had the privilege of working as a professional counselor with adults from all walks of life, helping people navigate an extraordinarily wide range of challenges and transitions. I’ve developed particular experience helping people work through anxiety, fears and phobias, grief and loss, self-doubt, and major life transitions. Addiction and recovery have become an important area of my professional expertise, but they are only one part of the work I do. I know firsthand what it means to struggle, to wonder whether things can really change, and to have someone believe in you when you’re not sure you can believe in yourself. Two therapists played an important role in my own recovery from addiction and depression. Their ability to listen without judgment and help me recognize my own potential changed the course of my life and inspired me to do the same for others.

My approach to therapy

I don’t believe therapy should be a one-size-fits-all experience. Drawing from a range of evidence-based approaches such as CBT, behavioral therapy, and relapse prevention, I adapt my approach to the person I’m working with. I’m interested not only in what you’re experiencing, but in understanding what may be underneath it and what is truly getting in the way of the life you want. I’m still fascinated by what makes each of us unique, and after 30 years—and hundreds of hours of continuing education and specialized training—I continue to learn because I believe there is always more to understand. I’ve worked with young adults finding their footing, retirees, veterans, single parents, people rebuilding after addiction, and people who simply know they’re hurting but can’t quite explain why.

What you can expect from me

Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, grief, addiction, trauma, fears or phobias, self-doubt, a major life change, or simply a feeling that something isn’t right, my goal is for you to feel heard, respected, and taken seriously. I will never minimize what you’re going through, but attempt to create a connection where you can be both serious about making changes and still be fully human.Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. You decide what you’re comfortable sharing, how deeply we go, and what questions you have about therapy. I’ll be open with you about how I work, what you can expect, and what I think may be helpful, so there are no surprises.

Most importantly, I want you to leave feeling that you’ve found someone you can trust and that you don’t have to figure everything out by yourself. If you’re considering therapy, schedule a free 15-minute consultation so we can talk, answer your questions, and see whether we’re the right fit.
