Great to meet you!

Hello, I’m Dr. Andrew Buchanan, a licensed clinical psychologist in Nevada. I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Palo Alto University in 2021 and became licensed to practice independently in Nevada in 2025.

I provide compassionate, evidence-based care for adults facing a wide range of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and other serious mental illnesses. I also specialize in cognitive rehabilitation and remediation for individuals experiencing cognitive changes related to brain injury, developmental disorders, or psychotic disorders.

My professional experience includes providing psychological services in nonprofit mental health agencies, county behavioral health programs, and state-operated forensic facilities. In addition to psychotherapy, I offer psychological and neurocognitive evaluations when appropriate.

I also enjoy working with caregivers who are experiencing stress or burnout related to their caregiving duties. Supporting those who dedicate themselves to caring for others is an important part of my practice.

My approach to therapy

I believe therapy should be collaborative and tailored to your unique goals. We will identify the changes you want to make, develop strategies to help you achieve them, and evaluate your progress along the way.

My practice is rooted in evidence-based, scientifically supported treatments. Depending on your needs, I use the following therapeutic approaches:

  • Psychodynamic therapy to better understand longstanding patterns and relationships.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors.
  • Cognitive rehabilitation techniques to improve thinking skills, problem-solving, memory, attention, and everyday functioning.

Using these methods, you and I will develop strategies you may use between our sessions to make improvements in your life. We will regularly assess what’s working and, identify obstacles to progress, and adjust your treatment plan to keep you moving toward your goals.

What you can expect from me

During our first session, we will spend time getting to know one another, discussing your concerns, and identifying what you hope to achieve through therapy. Together, we will begin developing a personalized treatment plan designed around your individual needs and strengths.

Throughout treatment, I may assessment tools to monitor your progress, measure meaningful improvements, and identify any barriers that may be interfering with your success. This data-informed approach helps ensure that your treatment remains focused, effective, and responsive as your needs evolve.

My goal is to provide a supportive, respectful, and collaborative therapeutic environment where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to make lasting changes. Whether you desire relief from emotional distress, support through a difficult life events, or strategies to improve cognitive functioning, we will create opportunities for you to move toward a healthier and more fulfilling life.
