Hello, I am Dr. Andrew Foltz. During my time in the field I have worked in many different settings and with many diverse populations. I have worked with many people of all ages from all sorts of backgrounds and walks of life with many different types of problems. I have seen a lot, and no matter what you are dealing with I've likely helped someone with a similar issue before and can help you too. You don't have to deal with your problem alone.
The most important factor in successful therapy is the therapist/client working alliance, that is the working relationship. I take an eclectic approach using tools from many different orientations. The choice of tool is determined by the problem. I tend to conceptualize from a cognitive-behavioral standpoint, and prefer to assist clients in gaining insight through explanation and education.
After the positive working alliance, one of the most important things a therapist can do is help the client find a sense of hope and a belief that the problem can be improved and solved. My goal for the end of any first session is 1) to have an understanding of what the client wants help with, 2) to have communicated at least a general idea of how I can help them with their problem, and 3) come to an understanding of whether this is a good fit and if we will be working on their problem together.
