Great to meet you!

Dr. Brutus is a licensed mental health provider and Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) in the field of Sport and Performance Psychology who works at the intersection of mental health, sport, and leadership performance. She supports high-achievers—including athletes, professionals, and leaders—who are navigating pressure, identity, performance demands, and life transitions.

In addition to therapy services covered by insurance, Dr. Brutus also provides mental performance consulting leveraging her specialty training in sport psychology, which focuses on optimizing performance in sport, business, and leadership settings. This work is not covered by insurance and is typically more goal-oriented and performance-driven.

Dr. Brutus is known for her warm, direct, and empowering style. She creates a space where clients feel supported while also being challenged to grow. Whether clients are seeking mental health support, performance enhancement, or both, her goal is to help them build clarity, resilience, and confidence across all areas of life.

My approach to therapy

Dr. Brutus takes an integrative approach grounded in liberation-based psychology, systems theory, strengths-based work, and mindfulness-informed practices, along with the use of heart rate variability (HRV) biofeedback.

  • Liberation-based psychology recognizes that mental health is shaped by social, cultural, and systemic contexts. This approach emphasizes empowerment, critical awareness, and helping clients understand how larger systems—such as performance culture, identity, and institutional pressures—impact their well-being and functioning.
  • Systems theory guides the exploration of how relationships, roles, and environments interact. Rather than viewing challenges in isolation, Dr. Brutus helps clients identify patterns across systems and shift them in sustainable ways.
  • Strengths-based therapy centers clients’ existing resilience and capacities. She works to build on what is already working while developing new tools to support growth and change.
  • Mindfulness and HRV biofeedback are used to enhance self-awareness, regulate stress, and improve performance under pressure. HRV biofeedback provides real-time insight into the nervous system, helping clients gain greater control over physiological responses to stress and anxiety.

When working in a mental performance consulting capacity, Dr. Brutus takes a more structured, goal-oriented approach, focusing on skills such as focus, confidence, emotional regulation, and leadership development at both the individual and team levels.

What you can expect from me

In the first session, Dr. Brutus focuses on understanding the client within the full context of their life—including goals, current challenges, identities, and the environments they are navigating. The session is structured yet conversational, allowing clients to share at their own pace.

Together, they will clarify whether the client’s needs are best suited for therapy (mental health-focused and insurance-covered), mental performance consulting (not insurance-covered), or a thoughtful combination of both. From there, they will begin identifying clear goals and outlining a path forward.

Dr. Brutus will also introduce her approach, including how mindfulness strategies and HRV biofeedback may be incorporated into the work. By the end of the session, clients can expect to leave with greater clarity, a sense of direction, and a collaborative plan for next steps—whether working individually or within a team or organizational setting.
