Great to meet you!

My name is Angela Chapman, I hold a Master of Social Work degree from Saint Louis University and am certified and licensed in Illinois. I am a compassionate, empathetic, and dedicated therapist with over 25 years of experience as a School Social Worker. I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, and families facing a variety of emotional, behavioral, social, and relationship challenges.

I draw from several therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Problem-Solving Therapy, Behavioral Management Therapy, Parent Management Training, Internal Family Systems Therapy, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy. I tailor my approach to your individual needs rather than believing that one approach works for everyone.

My approach to therapy

My therapeutic approach integrates positive psychology, cognitive psychology, trauma-informed care, and narrative-based practices to help clients understand not only what they are experiencing, but also how their experiences may be shaping the way they think, feel, respond, and relate to others.

I believe healing involves more than managing symptoms. Together, we explore the patterns, beliefs, experiences, and personal narratives that may be influencing your present life. This may include identifying trauma triggers and emotional responses, understanding where they come from, and developing practical tools to respond with greater awareness, confidence, and choice. Through a strengths-based lens, I also help clients recognize the resilience, capabilities, and internal resources they already possess.

My goal is to help you better understand yourself while developing practical skills that support meaningful and lasting change. I meet each client where they are and work alongside you to understand your concerns, identify your strengths, and develop realistic strategies for growth. My style is warm, open-minded, empowering, and solution-oriented. I strive to create a safe and welcoming space where you can be yourself without judgment, using empathy, active listening, and supportive guidance.

Together, we will explore what may be getting in the way, build on the strengths you already have, and work toward meaningful goals at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Whether you are navigating a difficult transition, relationship concerns, parenting challenges, emotional or behavioral concerns, or simply feeling stuck, my goal is to help you feel more confident, develop effective coping skills, strengthen your relationships, and move forward with greater clarity and purpose.

What you can expect from me

During your first session with me, you can expect a warm, welcoming and judgement-free environment where we begin getting to know one another. I will take time to listen to your story, understand what brings you to therapy, and learn what you hope to accomplish through our work together. You do not have to have everything figured out before you begin-our first session is simply an opportunity to start where you are.

We will talk about your current concerns, your strengths, and any challenges that may be affecting your emotional well-being, relationships, family, work, or daily life. We will also begin identifying goals for therapy and discussing how I can best support you.

Most importantly, I want you to feel comfortable being yourself. Building trust and a strong therapeutic relationship is important to me, and I believe meaningful progress begins when you feel safe, heard, and understood. We will work together to develop a plan that is realistic, supportive, and focused on the changes that matter most to you.
