Great to meet you!

Hello!, my name is Dr. Angela. I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 2009. I then completed my clinical internship at the University of South Carolina Counseling and Human Development Center and my postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. My research background in randomized trials informs my approach to therapy, with the goal of increasing accessibility. I have also developed and directed intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs prior to private practice, was licensed in New Jersey before moving to San Diego in 2012, have presented nationally and internationally, and am the author of “Mindful Eating from the Dialectical Perspective: Research and Application," as well as multiple journal publications.

My approach to therapy

I specialize in empirically validated approaches for disordered eating, self-harm, suicidality, borderline personality disorder (BPD), and pervasive anxiety and mood disorders, in adolescents, families, adults, and couples. I primarily practice dialectical behavior therapy (DBT, standard and radically open (RO)), as well as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), exposure, motivational interviewing, and acceptance and commitment therapy interventions. I emphasize concrete behavioral strategies and validation to foster balance, self-awareness, and connection.

What you can expect from me

I begin with a thorough assessment of background across domains of behavior, mood, and relationships, to elucidate patterns and diagnostic considerations for targeting. I strive to create a safe, respectful space for this vulnerability, receiving with gratitude for the opportunity to then respond with feedback and guidance in subsequent sessions.
