Great to meet you!

Hi, I am Dr. Legner. I earned my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Washington, D.C. My training includes a pre-doctoral internship in health/neuropsychology/rehabilitation at Aurora Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI, and a one-year postdoctoral fellowship in Primary Care Psychology at the Louis Stokes Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Cleveland, OH. After fellowship, I worked as a staff psychologist on the spinal cord injury unit at the Syracuse Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Syracuse, NY, for two years before transitioning to private practice.

My ideal clients are individuals who find themselves at a crossroads or in a season of life that requires deep reflection and personal growth. These may be individuals experiencing major life transitions, such as career changes, grief due to loss, relocation, or relationship shifts, or those coping with chronic physical conditions that significantly impact their emotional and mental health. I also work with clients of all ages dealing with ADHD, persistent anxiety, depression, or trauma, particularly when these symptoms are compounded by physical health challenges like chronic pain, autoimmune conditions, cognitive or neurological disorders, or fatigue syndromes. My clients often come to therapy because they are looking for more than just symptom reduction. They are seeking meaningful change and sustainable tools that they can carry into their daily lives. They may feel exhausted by trying to "push through" discomfort or have tried various coping strategies that haven’t produced lasting relief. These individuals need a therapeutic relationship that honors their full humanity—mind, body, and spirit. They are looking for a therapist who listens deeply, asks the right questions, and offers both insight and actionable strategies.

A bit about my approach to therapy

Life can feel overwhelming when you're navigating big transitions, managing chronic illness, or struggling with the mind-body toll of anxiety, depression, pain, or trauma. You don’t have to do it alone. I specialize in supporting individuals and families who are looking for not only relief but also practical strategies to feel better and move forward. Together, we’ll work to understand what’s getting in the way, and I’ll empower you with the knowledge and tools you need to manage your health, improve your well-being, and feel more in control of your life. I aim to help my clients gain clarity and confidence. Therapy is a powerful investment in yourself. I'd be honored to take that next step with you.

I take a warm, collaborative, and holistic approach to therapy—one that acknowledges the profound connection between the mind and body. Drawing from evidence-based treatments like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I work with individuals navigating both mental health concerns and chronic medical conditions. My focus is on helping you understand the emotional, physical, and behavioral patterns that may be keeping you stuck and empowering you with practical tools for lasting change. I value creating a space that is inclusive, nonjudgmental, and responsive to your unique experiences. I adapt my approach to meet you where you are, whether that means addressing anxious thoughts, improving daily functioning, or building coping skills for medical-related stress. My goal is to help you feel understood, supported, and capable of making meaningful progress toward your goals, so you can feel more balanced, resilient, and in control of your health and your life.

What you can expect from our first session

In every session, I strive to meet my clients where they are, offering a balance of compassionate listening and gentle challenge. I believe in the power of psychoeducation to demystify mental health and empower clients to make informed choices about their well-being. I frequently integrate mindfulness and body-based practices into our work to help clients reconnect with their internal wisdom and increase their capacity for self-regulation. I also support my clients in identifying their strengths and values, clarifying their goals, and taking actionable steps toward the life they want to live. For many, therapy becomes a place not only for healing but also for growth, creativity, and renewal. Clients often leave sessions feeling more grounded, hopeful, and equipped to navigate whatever comes next. No two clients are the same, and I honor the diversity of experiences, identities, and perspectives that each person brings to the therapy room. I strive to create an inclusive, affirming space where clients feel seen and heard. My work is trauma-informed and culturally responsive. I understand that healing is not linear and that setbacks are a natural part of the process. I remain committed to walking alongside my clients through the ups and downs, celebrating their progress, and holding space for their pain. Whether we are exploring a longstanding pattern or addressing a current crisis, my focus is always on fostering resilience, insight, and self-compassion.
