Great to meet you!

Welcome to Cognitive Hearts Counseling, PLLC. I’m Angela Ott, a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Tarleton State University.

I believe beginning therapy is a courageous step, and my goal is to provide a safe, compassionate, and judgment-free environment where clients feel heard, understood, and supported. I view therapy as a collaborative process and work with each client to develop treatment that reflects their individual needs, experiences, strengths, and goals.

I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families experiencing a variety of emotional, behavioral, and relational concerns. Areas of focus include anxiety, depression, trauma and stress-related concerns, emotional regulation, anger, life transitions, relationship and family concerns, parenting challenges, communication difficulties, self-esteem, and coping with everyday stressors.

I work with individuals who are neurodivergent, ASD, AuDHD, and ADHD. I also work with individuals who are in the LGBTQ+ community.

I also enjoy working with parents and families to improve communication, cooperation, emotional regulation, and relationships within the family.

I believe therapy is not about changing who you are. It is about developing a deeper understanding of yourself, recognizing your strengths, learning effective tools, and creating meaningful change.

Whether you are facing a difficult season, struggling with emotions or relationships, or simply feeling stuck, you don't have to navigate it alone.

At Cognitive Hearts Counseling, my goal is to help you find your path forward—one step at a time.

My approach to therapy

My therapeutic approach incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, person-centered therapy, and play-based interventions. I offer sand tray to assist in the processing of memories or current situations. I am currently in training for EMDR. When working with children and adolescents, I use developmentally appropriate activities, child-led play, mindfulness, and skill-building to help young clients better understand and express their emotions while developing healthy coping strategies.

What you can expect from me

Starting therapy can feel unfamiliar, especially if you aren't sure what to expect. My goal is to make your first session comfortable, welcoming, and informative.

Your first session will begin with an opportunity to get to know one another. I’ll share more about who I am, my approach to counseling, and what you can expect from our sessions. You’ll also have an opportunity to ask questions and decide whether you feel comfortable working together.

We will review the registration and intake process, including important practice policies, confidentiality, communication, scheduling, fees, and other information that will help you understand how counseling works at Cognitive Hearts Counseling.

During the intake, we will talk about what brings you to counseling, the concerns or challenges you are currently experiencing, and areas you would like to work on. This is also an opportunity for me to learn more about you, your experiences, strengths, and what you hope to gain from therapy.

Together, we will begin identifying your goals for counseling and discuss areas that may be helpful to focus on during future sessions. Your treatment plan will be individualized and may evolve as we learn more about your needs and progress.

Most importantly, you don't have to come to your first session with everything figured out. You don't need to know exactly what to say or even know what your goals are yet. We can work through that together.

My hope is that you leave your first session feeling welcomed, understood, and more comfortable with the counseling process—and with a clearer understanding of how we can work together to help you find your path forward.
