Great to meet you!

Carrying old pain quietly, or staying so busy you never have to feel it, can seem like the safer choice, until it starts costing more than it protects. I’m Angela Perkinson, a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) and registered art therapist based in Illinois, seeing clients by telehealth across the state. I work with teens, adults, and seniors carrying trauma, depression, anxiety, panic, grief, or substance use, and I meet each person where they are rather than where they think they should be. Many clients come in exhausted from holding everything together alone. My goal is to help you feel steadier and less alone with what you’re carrying. I’d welcome the chance to help you get there.

My approach to therapy

My approach is strengths based and tailored to each person’s needs, because no two people carry trauma, anxiety, or grief the same way. I draw on person-centered, dialectical behavioral (DBT), cognitive behavioral (CBT), art therapy, and trauma focused techniques, choosing whatever combination fits what you’re working through that week. For some clients that means talking it out, for others it means using art to reach what words can’t quite get to. Either way, I’m here to help you explore your emotions, build resilience, and make real, lasting progress in your mental health and well-being.

What you can expect from me

In our first session we'll talk through what's bringing you in, whether that's trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, or a struggle with substance use, and set a realistic plan together. From there, sessions move at your pace using EMDR, CBT, art therapy, and strengths-based techniques. Most clients leave feeling steadier, less alone with what they're carrying, and clearer on their next step.
