Angela Schardein

I have been an LCSW for 22 years. I am open to working with any client in need of mental health services. While my main focus during that time was working with children, I also worked with adults with mental health challenges as well as areas of domestic violence, sexual abuse, substance abuse, chronic health issues and the deaf/hard of hearing.

My undergraduate degree is from the University of Louisville - BS in Elementary Education. After a few years I returned to school and received my Paralegal Diploma from Sullivan College in Lexington, Ky. I really love working in the court system and legal world, but decided social work would allow me to combine my love for teaching, understanding the court system and legal issues into helping people. That led to my Master of Social Work from the University of Kentucky.

My education, legal and social work background provides me with a wealth of experience and knowledge that I pull from to provide well rounded mental health services to my clients.

My approach to therapy is to engage with my clients and allow them to open up about what they are experiencing which generally reveals the root cause for seeking therapy. It's important for clients to feel safe before exploring things that leave them feeling vulnerable.

Our first session will involve reviewing what to expect with regards to your PHI (protected health information), gathering some history and developing a goal for treatment. During that time I hope to begin building a trust in me as your therapist as well as the therapy process.
