Great to meet you!

I believe meaningful change begins when every voice is heard, accepted, and respected. That’s why my dream is a community where each person is able to identify, understand, and reduce the implications of trauma in themselves and in their community. As your therapist, my passion is in validating the struggles folks experience when they feel like no one else understands or wants to listen, so that feeling of invalidation does not become so overwhelming that it is disabling, relationship-ending, or life-changing in a harmful way.

My approach to therapy

I've been studying trauma and its effects on people for a very long time and in a variety of environments, so I have a lot of theory behind my practice. With that understanding, I choose to widen my lens in therapy and have the most open mind I can so I can avoid missing really important things that might be hurtful to the person I'm working with. I try to assume that, despite my experience, my client is the expert on themselves and I am there as a guide to a more comfortable place by helping to understand what triggers reactions, where they come from historically, what those reactions mean in the scheme of things, how to redirect the energy of them, and what might feel more empowering in their place.

What you can expect from me

The "why now" of the first session tends to feel important when I'm meeting someone new, especially when we are meeting for complex trauma or a different chronic experience. I'm just as interested in what has kept a person going as what has made things too hard, and I am often very excited when meeting a new person for the first time. That excitement is passion for helping, and I truly hope I get to share it with you!
