Great to meet you!

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you've been carrying anxiety, grief, relationship challenges, stress, or the effects of trauma on your own. You may be feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or unsure where to begin, and that's okay. I'm Ann Marie Nowak, a Licensed Professional Counselor with over six years of experience helping adults navigate life's most difficult moments with compassion, understanding, and practical support. I entered the field of Counseling later in life, returning to school at age 50. I have learned about life through the many experiences and challenges that came my way.

My background has allowed me to work with individuals facing a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship concerns, stress management, and end of life issues. I believe every person's story is unique, and I'm committed to meeting you where you are while honoring your strengths and experiences. I am able to work with mature clients, since I can well relate to the experiences and challenges that come about in our later years.

My approach to therapy

I believe therapy works best when you feel safe, heard, and accepted exactly as you are. My approach is collaborative, supportive, and tailored to your individual needs rather than a one size fits all process. Together, we'll explore the experiences, thoughts, and patterns that may be keeping you stuck while identifying practical tools to help you move forward with greater confidence.

I often incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and a strengths based approach to help you better understand the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. At the same time, I focus on recognizing your resilience and building on the strengths you already possess. My goal is not simply to reduce symptoms but to help you develop lasting skills, deeper self awareness, and healthier ways of navigating life's challenges. Whether you're processing loss, healing from trauma, strengthening relationships, or managing daily stress, we'll work together at a pace that feels comfortable and meaningful for you. I love my career and helping people, laughter will usually be a part of our time together.

What you can expect from me

It's completely normal to feel nervous before your first therapy session. Many people worry about what to say or wonder if they'll feel comfortable opening up. My priority is creating a welcoming space where you can simply be yourself without fear of judgment or pressure. Our first session is really a conversation, not an interview. I'll spend time getting to know you, learning about what brings you to therapy, and understanding what you hope to gain from our work together. I am open and understanding of so many life situations and experiences...no judgement here, I have more than likely struggled in a similar way.

You can expect to leave with a clearer understanding of how we can work together and a personalized plan that reflects your goals and needs. Over time, my hope is that you'll feel more confident, more connected to yourself, and better equipped to handle life's challenges with greater clarity and resilience. Taking this first step takes courage, and you don't have to do it alone. I would be honored to support you as you begin your journey toward healing and growth.
