Great to meet you!

The path to seeking mental health care is not always easy; we may contend with stigma, shame, "shoulds," and "shouldn't's." My aim as a therapist is to support you in living authentically and according to what you cherish and value, help you feel empowered to face the noise of the world, and encourage radical rest and renewal. I received my PhD in Clinical/Community Psychology and completed additional formal training at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School and UC Davis School of Medicine. As a licensed clinical psychologist and tenured university professor actively teaching and researching for over a decade, I see individuals within the contexts in which they live--their families, their communities, and their cultures. I connect science with compassionate, person-centered, and culturally responsive practice for clients facing emotional, relational, and life challenges.

My approach to therapy

Once we decide to work together, I'll work collaboratively with you. You can count on me to listen, respect you, and honor your strengths as well as your challenges. I've got a toolbox of science-based treatment strategies that I'll tailor to you, your needs, your preferences, your culture, and current life situation. My primary treatment approaches are cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy. I typically work with individuals with struggling with mood, stress, and anxiety, adjusting to new life and relationship changes, looking for healing from racial and cultural harm, and facing pressures from school or work.

What you can expect from me

From our first session, I strive to create an environment where you feel safe, comfortable, and empowered. Our first session will focus on getting to know you, your story, and your hopes. From there, we'll work collaboratively on your goals and develop a plan to help you reach them.
