Annette Rood

Hello! I am a licensed professional counselor in Virginia and have worked with a wide range of populations in a variety of settings. I am honored to join clients on their journey to help them find hope, experience healing, and grow in understanding of themselves. I love working with all ages and in addition to working with adolescents and adults, I provide play therapy to children ages 4-9. Areas I focus on include trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and life transitions. Currently I am only able to see clients virtually and hope to have my office space available in October, 2026.

My goal is to provide a space where clients can create safety and have their experiences heard and validated, whether that's allowing a child to use play to process their world or an adolescent/adult using traditional talk therapy or experiential means, like art and crafts, to create meaning. I like to think of you as the captain of this ship and I'm the navigator, providing tools, resources, and support to get you where you want to be.

From the moment you walk into my office, I hope to provide a space where you feel safe and cared for. At our first session, you'll be able to share your story and what you'd like to achieve in our time together. I will help you identify goals and we'll create a plan together for how you'll reach them. For play therapy, I meet with parents/guardians at the first session to gather background information and concerns while explaining the process and answering questions. The next session is where the magic of play takes over and I engage your child in various forms of play therapy.
