Annie Thacker

I come from a background in book publishing, and my love of literature, language, and metaphor inform the way I think about the uniqueness and complexity of people's stories and experiences. I believe the full context of our lives and the systems we live in have a tremendous impact on our mental health and interior lives. I have a lot of experience working with emerging adults, as well as clients of all ages exploring issues related to identity, relationships, life transitions, and trauma.

I’m here to help you explore things that might be difficult, or examine specific goals or concerns. I encourage your feedback and honesty, and always welcome humor into the work. I have experience helping clients gain insight into a wide variety of issues related to depression, anxiety, grief, relationships, trauma, sexuality, and gender identity. I take a relational approach, strongly rooted in the psychodynamic tradition while integrating elements of narrative therapy, DBT, and mindfulness.

I believe each person is the expert on their own life, my role as therapist is to guide and support deeper exploration and understanding. This can involve working to understand and integrate parts of the self, the impact of experiences of the past, and how the client shows up in their relationships with themself and others. I encourage clients to strive to locate self compassion and empathy for others, while also challenging themselves to look honestly at their own role in their lives.
