Great to meet you!

Hi! I am April, a Licensed Professional Counselor and Clinical Supervisor dedicated to helping individuals and families build healthier, happier lives. With over 20 years of experience, I specialize in helping you navigate relationship challenges and improve emotional intelligence by focusing on what you can truly control. My goal is to make mental health support feel approachable and to break down complex emotional issues into clear, manageable steps. Whether we are working on family dynamics or I am mentoring the next generation of therapists, I am passionate about fostering a supportive community where everyone can thrive.

My approach to therapy

When working together, my goal is to provide a supportive space where you feel heard, empowered, and equipped to make real changes. I use a Solution-Focused approach, which means we spend less time staying stuck in the past and more time looking at the practical steps you can take today to build a better tomorrow. To help you manage life's ups and downs, I teach DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) skills, giving you a "toolbox" of techniques for managing stress, regulating emotions, and improving how you communicate with others. Because we don’t live in a vacuum, I also look through the lens of Family Systems therapy to understand how your relationships and history shape your current world. For those who desire it, I offer a Faith-Based perspective, integrating spiritual values into our healing journey. You can expect me to be direct and honest with you, but always in a way that is encouraging and empowering, ensuring you have the strength and clarity to move forward with confidence.

What you can expect from me

In your first session, you can expect a warm and structured space where we focus entirely on your story and your goals. Since I review your completed intake forms ahead of time, we can jump right into the heart of what brings you to counseling and address your specific concerns from day one. We will also spend time discussing your expectations for therapy—whether this is your first time or you’re looking for something different than a previous experience. My goal is to ensure we are on the same page so that our work together feels productive, empowering, and tailored to exactly what you need. To finish our first meeting, I’ll provide you with specific "homework" or practical suggestions to focus on before we see each other again. This ensures that the progress we start in the office continues in your daily life, giving you immediate tools to work with. My goal is for you to leave that first session not just feeling heard, but feeling empowered with a clear plan of action.
