Great to meet you!

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over a decade of experience working in community mental health, private practice, and university health & counseling centers. I earned my M.S. in Mental Health Counseling from St. Lawrence University. I am an ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider and specialize in the treatment of anxiety disorders.

I've had a wide variety of experiences working with people of all ages from young children to elderly individuals, every gender, LGBTQ+, numerous ethnicities, varied beliefs & cultures, BIPOC, and neurodiverse individuals. I have a background in research related to ADHD and attention, human sexuality, and learning & memory in relation to various forms of stress such as the impacts of stereotype threat and microaggressions. These among other extensive experiences and research interests have helped shape my awareness and skill as a knowledgeable, empathic, sensitive, and caring therapist.

My approach to therapy

I approach the therapy environment from a person centered and trauma informed perspective. Your unique human experience is central to framing the issues and building the needed perspectives and positive growth necessary for the creation of personally relevant solutions and choices. We explore identity and sense of self, life meaning, and the functional nature of our behavioral patterns in the context of our life experiences and goals. I use various evidence based approaches to support sessions including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Narrative Therapy, Somatic Therapies, Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), Prolonged Exposure (PE), mindfulness practices, compassion practices, various existential therapies, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and other therapy approaches.

What you can expect from me

The initial session is designed to build understanding through listening to you as a person of value, an individual with a unique life story, values, and goals. We work collaboratively to establish a set of therapy objectives to assist with goal achievement. I work with you in each session to form a therapeutic alliance, to move toward transcendence of those negative limiting factors that may be impacting you in different ways. Ongoing sessions are focused on helping you gain traction and build upon growing strengths and recognize opportunities. I consider the counseling space to be a safe, compassionate, judgement free workshop space to gain understanding, develop insight, build adaptive skills, conceptualize possible ways forward, and define sets of workable actions to support a more enriching life-experience.
