Dr. Artin Terhakopian

AT Psychiatry, PLLC, is Dr. Terhakopian's psychiatry practice. It is located in Colorado Springs, CO.

Dr. Terhakopian is a board-certified psychiatrist. He earned his M.D. in 2002 through the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), the only military medical school in the United States. He completed a broad-based medical internship and psychiatry residency training at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He treated soldiers and their families affected by the trauma of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. Dr. Terhakopian then earned his Master of Public Health degree (M.P.H.) back at USUHS and completed a fellowship in Disaster and Trauma Psychiatry in 2008.

Many thousands of patient encounters have honed Dr. Terhakopian's skills in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of depression, anxiety, alcohol/substance use disorders, and particularly Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Because of his training in medicine in addition to the social and psychological sciences, Dr. Terhakopian is able to assess for medical conditions which can and, in many cases, do contribute to mental health problems. This type of comprehensive evaluation significantly improves the odds of treatment success and improved functioning. ​

Most mental health providers approach the diagnosis and treatment of mental/behavioral disorders based on clusters of symptoms and little to no exploration of psychological and social factors or underlying medical etiology and pathophysiology. Dr. Terhakopian, on the other hand, practices a whole-person approach. He is patient-centered and aims to understand his patients. This approach has been shown to foster better long-term health outcomes and improve trust between patients and providers.
