Great to meet you!

I enjoy talking about context and how our individual differences shape our lives. Disability and Mental Health topics have been my focus throughout my clinical and research career. I hold a PhD in Counselor Education & Supervision with a master's in clinical rehabilitation & mental health counseling. I have experience as a professor in higher education at the undergraduate and graduate levels, teaching courses across human services and working in student support roles. I have trained several master's level clinicians who received training from CACREP-accredited programs. I was born in OH, grew up in WV, and have spent much of my adult life in both PA and OH. I currently reside in NC! The sunshine and warm weather are great.

My approach to therapy

In therapy with me, you can expect a conversational style tailored to the client's needs. I integrate various theories and approaches. I understand that we all have unique needs that evolve throughout life. I hope to acknowledge and honor your journey and support you as a new support for the next stretch of the way! I like to offer clients a relational perspective (with themselves and others), as well as broader system contexts. My style is process-based, which means I help clients develop solutions for themselves by learning to explore their beliefs and build trust and the ability to create and maintain a life that is fulfilling and healthy for them.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, I hope to learn about how you view life. What makes you happy? What makes life meaningful? What gets on your nerves? What types of skills are you hoping to develop or looking for? We'll talk about why you're coming to the session with me and what you are interested in working on/exploring. It'll be a time to start understanding each other a bit more and begin addressing your needs.
