Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and begin building a foundation for our work together. We’ll spend time discussing what brings you to therapy, any current challenges you’re facing, and what you hope to gain from counseling. There’s no pressure to share everything at once—you’re welcome to move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
I’ll ask some questions to better understand your background, experiences, and goals, and I’ll also explain my approach to therapy so you know what to expect moving forward. Together, we’ll begin identifying areas to focus on and discuss how therapy can be tailored to meet your specific needs. Sessions are collaborative and client-centered, and your input plays an important role in shaping the direction of our work.
My goal in the first session is to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you feel heard and respected. By the end of the session, many clients leave with a clearer understanding of their concerns, an initial sense of direction, and reassurance that they don’t have to navigate things alone.
