Welcome to therapy! My name is Ashley Schroeder and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina with five years of experience. I graduated from Viterbo University in La Crosse WI with my master's degree and specialties in Child and Adolescent Therapy as well as Substance Abuse Counseling. I also have experience working within the foster care system and I love providing couples therapy. I can't wait to be a part of this brave step you're taking!
My main modalities include Person Centered Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This means that I hope to create a warm and welcoming environment in which my clients feel safe to discuss topics they deem important. I also hope to help my clients recognize the connections between thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and beliefs in order to improve wellbeing. For couples counseling specifically, I use Emotion Focused Couples Therapy. This helps couples learn to recognize negative cycles and find strategies to exit these cycles.
Our first session together will feel a little different from the rest. It's normal to be nervous and a little excited! I would love to get to know you both "clinically" and personally, so we will spend time discussing who you are, your background, and what brought you in to therapy. This snapshot into your life helps me to learn about you and your needs. Next, we will create therapy goals together so that we ensure that therapy is productive and exactly what YOU need it to be.
